Create Your Future Now!

Hi All,

Many of the top thinkers in the world have the mindset of future thinking. Basically, it is about having a vision of what you want and making it happen. In having a vision - make sure that it fits with your values. Otherwise you'll have a hard time reaching the goals you set forth yourself based on your vision.

In getting into a mental state that corresponds to what your future will be like - bring in all the different modalities. See what you want, hear the sounds, feel what it is like, even smell and taste the air. You are using visualization of what your future is like and what you want it to be like. The more you want it - the more likely you'll get it.

When thinking of your vision - it doesn't matter how big it is. What really matters is that you have that vision. Heck, you'll probably will never reach a really big vision. The important thing is that you have it in the first place. Once you have a vision, then it'll be time to establish a mission to reach that vision. Why are you on that mission? What purpose drives to go on a mission? Again, its got to fit into the vision.

Next, you'll set goals that are aligned with your vision and mission. Goals should be extremely clear. Use the visualization techniques mentioned above. See it, hear it, feel it. This time make sure that you set a deadline on when you want to reach each goal. The thing about goals is that they are not the vision. While the vision may not be attainable - goals usually are. You'll continue to set new goals once you reach each one. Most people who set goals to do something never have a mission and vision prior to the goal. That will usually leave them feeling empty when they finally reach the goal. Many Olympic athletes that win a gold medal will celebrate soon after. After that - they tend to go into a depressive state. Why? Because they focused on the goal with no vision of why they are even competing. The vision is bigger than the athletes themselves. It's bigger than each Olympic game. There has to be a purpose to it. See Lancet 2005; 336:536-537

Make sure everything you go after are aligned with your values - that includes your vision, mission, and goals. Keep balance in your life when pursuing your dreams. If you want more information - just send me an email: coach@hypnomindpower.com You can also leave a comment too.

Thanks,

Times of Change

There will come those times that creates change in one's life. It could be any number of things that will do just that. In my own life - my mother is about to make a transition her own life. She's at the point where her life in near the end. Death is hard for many of to take. When a loved one is making that transition - it is especially hard for those of us still living.

My mother has suffered from dementia for many years now and her body is starting to shut down. She was moved from her nursing home to a hospital due to a staph infection she received. Her mind is no longer able to make sense of anything and she has lost the ability to talk. In the last week she has gone in and out of consciousness and our whole family realize that the time has come for her to make her transition. We are preparing the arrangements for her funeral and will be prepared as much emotionally as we can.

I've counseled family members (outside my own) who have lost a loved one. Just last October, my wife lost her father. I was able to help her too. We will hurt for awhile - going through the stages of loss.

This is something that people have been dealing with for countless generations. When I lost my father back in 1983, my mother lost her companion and husband. It was hard on her - even more so than it was on me and my siblings. Life is precious and death makes it more so. Each and every one of us will have the same transition from life to death. As each year goes by - the transition becomes more inevitable. Sometimes life can end sooner than expected - from an accident or a sudden heart attack. My brother had a heart attack back in 2000 - something he had not expected. That was just after his 39th birthday.

What I really want to say is that change will happen and yet each and every one of us can embrace that change. Most importantly, make your life matter. Find your purpose now or in what you are doing. Enjoy every minute. Don't look back on what you could have done or don't look forward to any worries. You should live the life you want (as long as it doesn't violate any laws) and seize upon it now. Each moment that passes is a moment that you can never get back. If you ever wanted to do something, but was too afraid, then do it. Make sure that it is really what you want. Make sure it fits your personal values.

Yes, we will die. That's a fact. Yet, as you read this - you are still living, aren't you? Then live. Get out and experience life. Embrace each moment. Live in the present.

Here's a poem by Max Ehrmann that I feel will help you to live as best a life as possible:

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

I wish all of you a great life and when it come time for your transition - look back on your life and smile.

The Baggage That Stops From Getting What You Want

It’s close to Christmas day which is this Sunday.  I sure hope those that celebrate it will get everything you asked for.  And speaking of that – most of us don’t even know what we really want, am I right?  I’m not talking about what you want for Christmas either.  It’s about what you want out of life.

Most people’s minds are so full of junk that has been placed there from their past that they don’t even know their real selves.  Part of having mind power is to get past the baggage from the past and deal with those things that are holding you back.  Heck, I’m an expert in holding on to baggage.  I’ve also learned how to dump it when I realize that I’m carrying it around.

Once you understand what you are carrying around and why you are carrying it around, then you can let go of it or just know that it’s the baggage that is stopping you from accomplishing or doing what you want to do.  Or even what you want out of life.  It took me many years to find out what I really want and it’s not a big house or some fancy car either.  I’m not knocking those things and if you want them for yourself (as long as it’s not about trying to impress someone) that’s okay.  Most people in the United States will go after something as a status symbol.  That’s especially true here Los Angeles.

Having money is okay too.  We need it.  But the accumulation of it just for the sake of showing off is not what money is all about.  It also goes back to the baggage that people carry around.  In the next few blogs I’m going to tell some reasons why you carry around baggage and the types of baggage.  I’ll also give some suggestions on how you can get rid of it or put it on the back burner.

That’s it for today…

Stress and College

Hi again,

I'm sure that many of you that have been in college or are in college tend to stress through certain classes, right? For the most part your stress and anxiety is mostly perceived. I should know, I've been there and I am currently in grad school working towards my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

I do workshops and seminars on stress reduction - a lot of it coming from my training in the Marine Corps and martial arts. I've also added some training from hypnosis and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP). Emotional stress is a real killer. In school it can create a lot of headaches, especially around test time, am I right? There may be a few of you that doesn't feel anxiety at test time, yet for the majority of you thinking about your finals can create all kinds of turmoil.

There are things that you can do that will help you to alleviate the stress and anxiety that you may be feeling. Get out and move. That's right, movement through exercise can get rid of emotional stress. By using physical stress, emotional stress will drop like crazy. Exercises like Yoga is even more effective. It'll have other benefits too - like shaping and molding your body to create a better appearance. And you'll be more flexible and healthy too.

Progressive relaxation is great way to reduce stress and anxiety, especially when you are at rest. What you want to do is to get yourself into a comfortable position - whether sitting or laying down. If you are sitting, you'll want to start at the top of your head and work you way down to your feet. Basically, you sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor and your hands on your lap. You start at the top of your head and tell yourself that your head is feeling very relaxed and calm. You work your way down telling each body part that it is relaxing and calm until you get down to your feet. Once you reach your feet - take 3 deep breaths - inhaling slowing and exhaling slowly.

There are many other ways to relieve stress and anxiety. Eating and drinking are not an option. So don't do them. Do the things that I mentioned previously and you can add things like meditation, going for a walk, going to the beach (if you live close enough), reading a good book, listening to calm music, etc... The skies the limit - just don't self-destruct with the bad stuff, okay? You have an important life to live.

I'll Help You to Unleash Your Mind Power for Success

Hi All,

I remember many years ago when I first ventured into studying the mind. I was a kid learning karate in Okinawa. I was amazed how my sensei would be able to do a lot of the movements that he did. It was then that I found out that mind over matter was how he did those things. As the years went by, I progressed in my studies in the martial arts. I read books on how to use one's mind to overcome any fear or do great in my training.

I used it to excel in sports and to get past my one major problem that I had - I stuttered - a lot! Yes, I was good in sports and such - yet this one problem almost did me in. I had low self-esteem and was so worried about what others thought of me that I even contemplated suicide at 7 years old. But the strength of what I learned in martial arts and the books I read regarding mind power really helped me. I still stuttered for many years beyond that age when I finally learned to speak clearly.

Today, I am able to speak in front of large crowds with passion and purpose. No longer do I stutter. I have fun speaking to people. My fear of speaking in public has disappeared and its been replaced with a great desire to speak - either for pay or for free.

I tell you all this because any one of you may have something you want to overcome to become your best ever. I'm here to help you and to answer any questions you may have as to how to unleash your mind power.
